Paper Hearts Volume 3 Some Marketing Advice edition by Beth Revis Reference eBooks

This has some good information in it, but maybe it's for more of a super super beginning writer. I didn't think there was enough to warrant a whole book, and the thing is, Revis doesn't quite seem to understand or address what it's like to build a career without a giant, life-changing advance and huge publisher push. This would have been a lot more useful to the average writer if there was more information in here about what to do when you're NOT already being marketed heavily by your publisher and you DON'T have any real money to expend because your advance was meager.

Paper Hearts Volume 3 Some Marketing Advice edition by Beth Revis Reference eBooks Reviews

My brain is currently a mess of obsessing about past stuff, worrying about future stuff, and composing a lot of to-do lists, so I'm going to give you the lowdown on this book bullet-point style

* PH SMA is ideal for self-published authors or debut authors who are wondering the best way for them to support the promotional efforts by their publishers. As someone who has released several books, I had heard some of the information before, but there were also some new things for me to think about and some reminders I probably needed. So really, if you're in a "But how do I get people to read my book??" place, this is an excellent source of ideas. If you're still drafting your first novel or working on publication, I recommend checking out the first two books in this series and saving this one for later.

* Beth used to be a teacher, and I really enjoyed the information from that POV. Things like adding common core standards to your discussion guides and not making your guide white print on a black background because that's difficult to print (oops *makes notes to redo blog*) are just common sense things I had never thought about.

* Beth is not afraid to promote promotional outlets that worked for her. She dedicates an entire chapter to BookBub, a site that provides huge promotional opportunities to authors who meet their guidelines. I have seen what a well-timed BookBub promotion can do for an author, so I found myself nodding along here.

* One of the best things about PH SMA is the conversational tone it's written in. Maybe you can't sit down to coffee with an NYT bestseller and ask for marketing tips. This book will make it feel like you are. Beth keeps it casual and she keeps it real throughout this book.

* Overall, I found Paper Hearts Some Marketing Advice to be a quick and fun read with lots of helpful marketing information. Revis is quick to share where she did it wrong in the past as a way to help you not make the same mistakes, and she's also quick to point out that what works for one person or book doesn't necessarily work for the next. There is no magic formula for successful marketing, but if you want to learn more about your options and become more comfortable with the process, this is the book for you.

I received a complimentary e-copy of this book for review as part of a blog tour.
Great craft book.
So glad this series was recommended to me. I learned loads, much of what I do was affirmed, and it was fabulous gaining insight in the author's "behind-the-scenes" . A must read!!!
I have a debut novel coming in 2018 and this book was recommended in my debut group. I've been around publishing for a while in a variety of capacities, but I really found some great information in this book. Recommended! (And while I am going to be traditionally published, Revis also includes advice for self-publishers.)
Wow! What an amazing resource full of information that will help any author looking to step up their marketing game when the time comes. Take notes, writers because what you read here will come in handy time and time again. Whether you need guidance in figuring out what to put on your author website, are looking into how to best market your book three months before publication leading up to launch day, or trying to navigate how best to handle events once you are an established author, this book is the perfect launching pad for all things marketing. Not sure about social media? Starting a newsletter? Handling giveaways? Revis has got you covered! I highly recommend this for authors who are self publishing, debuting traditionally, or are established authors who need some encouragement when it comes to marketing. What a great tool here. Highly recommended.
I’m only just getting ready for the querying stage of publication. Most of the advice presented in this volume isn’t relevant to me yet. That said, I still found volume three of PAPER HEARTS enlightening and informative.

I don’t often see the nitty-gritty of marketing discussed for traditionally published writers, so I don’t usually give it much thought. Before recently I hadn’t even considered the possibility of self publishing, so I know precious little about making that work. I’d certainly never devoted much thought to how much of the two can overlap. Now I feel like I’m a little more aware, and have filed some ideas away for when I’ll need them.

I especially enjoyed the breakdown of how to effectively use different types of social media as an author. I’ve primarily stuck to Twitter and tumblr for my own writing purposes, so I hadn’t thought much about my other options. Obviously social media can change quite rapidly, but that itself was a topic covered in the book. Valuable bits of social media etiquette were discussed, and I’d consider it not just a primer on marketing, but on not making a fool of yourself online.

Volume three of PAPER HEARTS is definitely geared more towards people who are ready to break into the publishing world, but I would recommend it to newbie writers as well. It’s important to know the industry you want to make a career in, and all three volumes of PAPER HEARTS covered things I hadn’t stopped to consider. I’ve already recommended them to certain writer friends of mine, and I’ll continue to do so. They are some of the best book of writing and publishing advice I’ve ever read.

Overall review five of five; highly recommend to those looking to make a career in publishing. I especially recommend this one to self-published authors or those who hope to become so.
This has some good information in it, but maybe it's for more of a super super beginning writer.
