Deepak Chopra, Debbie Ford, and Marianne Williamson - New York Times best-selling authors and internationally acclaimed teachers - have joined together to share their knowledge on one of the most crucial obstacles to happiness we face the shadow. These three luminaries, each with a signature approach, bring to light the parts of ourselves we deny but that still direct our life. For it is only when we embrace our shadow that we discover the gifts of our authentic nature.

The shadow exists within all of us. It is a part of us and yet we spend most of our life running from it. But far from being scary, our dark side holds the promise of a better, more fulfilling life. Our shadow makes itself known every day. It is the reason we get furious over a friend showing up 10 minutes late, yell at our parents or kids when they have done nothing wrong, and sabotage our own success at the worst possible time. Until we are able to embrace our dualistic nature, we will continue to hurt ourselves and those closest to us and fall short of our potential.

Combining the wisdom of three experts, The Shadow Effect is a practical and profound guide to discovering the gifts of our shadow. These three authors powerfully pierce the veil of our unclaimed self, releasing us from the past and propelling us on a journey to wholeness. No longer living a half life, we are capable of achieving our dreams and reclaiming the happiness that is our birthright.

The Shadow Effect Illuminating the Hidden Power of Your True Self (Audible Audio Edition) Deepak Chopra Marianne Williamson Debbie Ford HarperAudio Books

I gave this DVD two stars because i was disappointed in the lack of real content presented in the video. It was more like ‘the why’ we need emotional healing but without any strategies on ‘how to’ find it. It seemed more like a general outline of the so-called ‘shadow effect’ we all feel in our lives re: fear, shame and regret we’ve experienced but it gave no real specific ways to attain freedom from those things. Also, I felt like the presentation was geared more for people who have suffered traumatic loss or events in their lives such as a holocaust victim or victims of abuse. Maybe for some people it would be therapeutic but for myself it was not what I expected.

The Shadow Effect Illuminating the Hidden Power of Your True Self (Audible Audio Edition) Deepak Chopra Marianne Williamson Debbie Ford HarperAudio Books Reviews

This book has been so educational for me! I downloaded it onto my iPad, have highlighted chunks of it, and am now on my second read-through of just my highlights. It is so inspirational that I just read one or two of my highlights per day and it reminds me to stay grounded and centered, and to check in with my shadow self. This book has taught me not to be afraid of my shadow self but rather to understand that it is part of me, and it is my teacher. It helps me to know what I need to pay attention to inside myself on a daily basis. I embrace my shadow self now rather than running from it. It is a constant challenge, but it truly allows me to live a more peaceful, loving life, and it reminds me that when I embrace my shadow self, I am whole. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is struggling with their own emotions like shame, fear, discomfort, sadness, or any other challenging feeling.
This is the single best presentation on the Shadow I've ever read and I've read many. I was especially impressed by Ms Fords presentation. All three Author sections are well written, accessible to many levels of reader and contain life enhancing information. It takes real skill to make a subject like The Shadow understandable. This book does that...
I enjoyed the way things were illustrated in this book. Having the 3 different perspectives hit several different paradigms in my life and I am able to not only see things in a different way, I finished the book with hope. I love that they call God by name. I found that refreshing. I also love the way that divinity is described as love regardless of your religion. Definitely a must read.
The Shadow Effect is a work that promotes and encourages a person to acknowledge and then embrace those areas within themselves that for various reasons they have attempted to keep hidden about themselves. The principle that to become whole, one should not deny those parts of themselves they may not be proud of or feel in some way uneasy about. Social pressures often are factors in this.

Our egos are behind our need to keep hidden what can be thought of as our darker side. Image to the ego is very important. It is understood by many that a failure or purposeful denial to acknowledge any part of ourselves gives it additional power. It is also understood to change anything you must be aware of its existence, so denial will not aid a person if they seek personal growth. Denial of any part of ourselves serves to keep a person to some degree personally static.

When we label and define anything, if we do so seriously, we are allowing for a life of limitations. Many label things good or bad. Our shadow side we usually label as being bad. Here again our egos are showing up for it is the ego which relies on and uses duality almost exclusively. A dualistic understanding of anything, including ourselves, never permits wholeness.

This is what the authors are considering. If one wishes to return to their natural state of wholeness take a closer look at what you may be hiding or denying about yourself. Embrace it instead of denying it. It is only then a person can release it consciously if it no longer serves the person.
I got a lot out of Deepak's section at the beginning, but what really drew me in and taught me the most was Debbie Ford's section in the middle. Debbie Ford is funny, insightful, and right-on about human nature. There is a sense of freedom you get, recognizing that when you own your dark side, instead of repressing it and projecting it onto others, not only do you become more self-realized, but you see more inherent goodness outside yourself, in the world. This helps us re-connect with others, especially if you're the type who can sometimes feel righteous indignation or moral superiority.

I used to be a self-righteous activist, who was constantly projecting my own negativity on others. Using the insights in this book, I've been able to evolve into a more conscious, compassionate person. I'm still a force for change in the world, without all the struggle, overwhelm and negativity. Very highly recommended!
The Shadow Effect is a good book which helps you think about your own actions in life, and also make you think about other situations which have happened. It is almost a piece which helps you reflect on how you have judged, reacted, and pushed through in certain situations, and how you could have improved upon them. I liked the book when it analyzed and broke down specific examples, and helped you decide which alternative actions can be taken to resolve the situation. It also talked about how being quick to judge, may keep you from seeing the larger picture. Overall, the books content was good, but towards the end, the last author was incredibly preachy. The last 25% of the book was OK, but could have brought in more life examples and views on the situations about your shadow instead of preaching God’s love every other sentence. I honestly have nothing against this, but the book is about the dark shadow people have and how to recognize it, and alternative ways to have it work for you instead of against you. I understood what he was saying, but it became rather repetitive. Overall, I would like to give the book more than three stars, but because it diverted back and forth between alternative thinking, and preachy word at the end turned it from an interesting read to a struggle to finish. Overall I recommend reading it once, if not to just read the first two parts at least.
I gave this DVD two stars because i was disappointed in the lack of real content presented in the video. It was more like ‘the why’ we need emotional healing but without any strategies on ‘how to’ find it. It seemed more like a general outline of the so-called ‘shadow effect’ we all feel in our lives re fear, shame and regret we’ve experienced but it gave no real specific ways to attain freedom from those things.
